All evidence shows children who are brought up to respect and care for animals possess higher levels of empathy and compassion; they are also more confident and can transfer their skills to human relationships. I absolutely love how children are so ready to absorb learning if delivered in a way that means something to them. Having trained within Forest School, Equine Learning and Animal Assisted Therapy which encompasses outdoor education in different forms; I know the power the animal world can bring.
We have lots of little visitors to Bay Horse Ranch, who come to play with horses and all the other animals. Most won't want to ride or be involved with horses as they grow older, but the skills they learn through play and adventure will benefit all other areas of their lives.
Courses & Groups
Pony Partners
A 6 week Course for children over the age of five up to 12yrs. Participants learn all about the mind of the horse and how to communicate with her/him. We cover mindfulness and breathing techniques and how they are important for the partnership to succeed. Each week the child learns about pony care and back-work and lots of ground skills to develop confidence. This course is not just about learning about horses, but each child learns a lot about themselves, plus they get a certificate & rosette on completion!

Foundational Horsemanship
A 6 week course for anyone 12yrs + covering all aspects of the horse’s world; understanding their minds, health and diet, herd watching, leadership work and ground skills. There is no ridden work so this course is suitable for all whether it’s to improve horsemanship skills or as a complete beginner wanting to approach things from a more enlightened way.
Certificate on completion.

Outdoor Sessions
We hold pop-up play sessions at the ranch during the year for under 5’s: free-play and animal encounters, plus games and fireside snacks. Look out for notifications! Numbers are limited and are pre-booked only.
